To truly understand how St. Louis, Missouri was established, one must take into account the history of St. Louis, Missouri.  Follow me and as we take a moment to review the historical accounts. In 1673, the underdeveloped city of St. Louis was a chief location of the Mississippi Mound planners. “Mound City,” was a place that contained plentiful mounds and is how the would-be city got the name.

The town initially grew due to its location around the Mississippi River and had traders constantly moving up and down the river. Thus, it became a gateway for pioneers going west, some by carriage and others by boat up the Missouri River. In 1673, Louis Joliet and Jacques Marquette, both came to the town via the Mississippi river and claimed the city in the name of France.

In 1699, a settlement was built by King Louis XIV. In 1703, Catholic priests started a diminutive mission at St. Louis and later it moved cross-ways of the Mississippi River. In 1763, Pierre Laclède De Liguest and his 13-year-old son, Auguste Chouteau, came from New Orleans and established a post to gain the benefits of the business provided by the downstream Missouri River.  In November, they grounded some miles downstream of the river that met with the Missouri River in a location where forested mineral bluffs rose forty feet over the river. They went back from the coldness, to Fort Du Chartres.

Later, the steamboat period, which started in St. Louis on July 27th, 1817, started the influx of the Zebulon M. Pike which played a part in the importance of St. Louis, Missouri. Steamboats meant major growth in the river business, as the vapor powered engines allowed for a much more efficient and trustworthy form of river transportation, unlike the hand propelled barges and keel ships.  Before the steam-powered engines came along, the hand propelled barges and keel ships were the only options and required great physical agility and strength.

In 1876, the city became independent. In the 20th century, St. Louis extended an active émigré Mob society. The main improvement in the renewal of the city, established the World Management Award in 2006. In 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau accounted for a population growth spurt of 6,172, and in 2008, there was a massive growth in population bringing the total to 354,361. The history and population is the result of the Mississippi River based trade economy.
